The Tricolor Horned Nerite Snail is a great addition to help keep detritus and algae at a minimum in community and planted aquariums. They are a peaceful snail that will not bother other snails, fish or plants. Like many other snails the Nerite Snail does not have a long-life span and they will have to be replaced every year or so. This snail mostly relies on detritus and algae as their food source, but be sure to supplement their diet with sinking pellets. Tricolor Horned Nerites thrive in aquariums where some biofilm is left for them to graze on. Utilizing decorations like rocks and driftwood that don't get cleaned or perhaps not cleaning the algae off a give wall of the display tank is an excellent way to get them the food they need. This feeding benefit/requirement means you should be somewhat careful about over stocking Tricolor Horned, especially in aquariums where other effective algae eaters live. We recommend around 3 per 10 gallons of display.
