My name is Miss Wendy and I love helping students feel comfortable and confident in mathematics! I was in the Air Force for 5 years before I went to Arizona State University for my certification and degree in education. I'm a big nerd and I fund my hobbies by teaching math! I love making art, traditionally and digitally, and I'm chronically online. When I'm not teaching, I'm often playing video games or doing something creative. I worked as a public high school teacher for 2 years before I transitioned to online tutoring! I use "I Do, We Do, You Do" to guide students through the math. I Do examples, We Do practice problems together, and then You Do the problems on your own. We move through these stages together, and by the end, you should be able to recreate the results on your own! For big, complex problems I use a technique called "chunking." I break down the content into manageable 'chunks' that we can connect together to understand the bigger picture. I like to put special emphasis on what to do FIRST - the rest will follow! Sometimes in math, we just need to practice over and over until it sticks. I like to use games to achieve this, such as websites like Gimkit and Blooket. I do my best to avoid boring worksheets!
