La Haine! What a powerful and enduring film. It's a gritty, unflinching look at the simmering tensions and social unrest in the banlieues (housing projects) of Paris in the aftermath of a police beating. The film primarily follows three young men from different ethnic and religious backgrounds – Vinz, a volatile Jewish youth; Saïd, a laid-back Arab; and Hubert, a thoughtful Black boxer – over the course of a tense 24 hours.
