The chalkboard is made of plywood coated with blackboard paint which fits into the natural ashwood stand. We use high-quality water-borne 'Tikkurila' paint for a beautifully matt accent surface.
Chalk writing adheres well to the black chalkboard surface and can be wiped off easily. Use a slightly damp, soft cloth to remove regular chalk from a chalkboard stand surface. You may also use a little Windex or the Mr. Clean Magic eraser VERY lightly to get rid of wet-erase marker ghosting.
Ashwood Stand itself also works perfectly as table number stands, small sign holders, or menu cardholders.
