When assembled it winds with just your finger as the axle and your other hand's finger as the crank, with an axle insert for the center hole that the reel rotates around instead of your finger (which is helpful especially in the summer when your hands get sweaty!). The included axle handle simply slides in to make winding even easier.
Designed and made in-house right here in North Carolina, with a compact size for easily accommodating a 40 meter end-fed half wave or half of an 80 meter dipole with 22 gauge wire (I use BNTECHGO silicon wire from Amazon that is awesome for this).
This is a kit version of our popular 90mm antenna winder reel https://dreamlabnc.etsy.com/listing/1659563010/antenna-winder-reel-35-90mm-diameter-for which is perfect for portable antennas and many other winding uses! The kit includes the top and bottom winder pieces, axle insert and axle handle. It is "straight off the printer" with easy assembly in just a few minutes with a little bit of superglue (not included) and a little snipping. Simply glue the two halves together, place the axle insert in, snip the clips and it's ready to roll (pun intended 😁). Detailed step-by-step instructions are included.
Pictured holding my 40M EFHW made from 22 gauge silicone wire, including 2 links all fitting in there no problem! It can hold approx. 40 feet of RG-316U coax as well (for RG-316U our compact paracord winder's top clips will fit the coax https://dreamlabnc.etsy.com/listing/1731296094). Also handy for holding things like a 2 meter ladder line "slim-jim" antenna with 15/16" wide 450 ohm ladder line, or even those random cables that always seem to be hanging around the shack.

On the winder side there is a spot for the UNUN connection (or coax side of a dipole) of the wire to slot through (or clip onto if you're using alligator clips like I do), side holes to accommodate links or connectors (mine has a link for 20m and one for 30m), and 2 notched clips sized for 22 AWG wire for the insulator end to clip into when it's wound up (so the wire stays put when you put it back in your bag). The winder is very lightweight, you can leave it hanging on the wire when deployed without any notable sagging.
Dimensions: 3.5" (90mm) diameter, 1" winding space between the ends, and 1 7/8" (47mm) from the bottom to the top of the winding finger hole. Available in orange or yellow, so you can easily find it in the woods.
