ABOUT THE DESIGN & PATTERN:
The Love Balaclava was created for those who love prints and colors and are dreaming of a quite eccentric headwear ( or in short - for me). It is covered with multiple hearts which for sure will turn people's heads - yes, you will be in the spotlight while wearing this unique piece!
But maybe you want something low-key? No problem! You can make the Love Balaclava plain (so actually no "love" balaclava anymore) as this pattern includes some shortened instructions for the plain version.
LEVEL:
Love Balaclava pattern will be good for intermediate beginners, crochet terminology you should know: chain, slip stitch, single crochet. The rest is thoroughly described and shown on photos and graphics in the pattern. But if you already know how to make tapestry crochet, it'll be even easier!
SIZING:
Love Balaclava comes in 3 sizes, yes you can make it for kids and babies too (the red balaclava on the cover is just a prototype so it doesn't fit well, check the further photos of the green balaclava to see the proper fit for babies). It might also be pretty well adjusted while crocheting the last part (ribbing) so you will be able to make it fit like a glove. And please, don't forget to make a gauge swatch before you start!
HOOK:
- a 5 mm hook (or another one which will correspond to the right tension, some of my testers used a 4 or 4.5 mm hook)
YARN:
- dk / light worsted
- for size 3 you will need around 260 meters of yarn for the base and around 50 meters for hearts; for size 1: 175 m and 30 m
-I was working with 2 strands of Kid-Silk and 1 strand of Baby Merino (both from Drops) - so 3 strands together.
(But you can work with one strand of DK YARN of course!)
- for size 3 I used 1,5 balls of Baby Merino and 3 balls of Kid-Silk in pink; and 0,3 ball of Baby Merino and 0,6 ball of Kid-Silk in red
GAUGE / TENSION:
10 cm x 10 cm = 20 single crochets x 20 rows
The pattern is clearly written, includes charts and good quality photos.
