These letters sit in the "TUNDRA" stamp on the tail gate and use aftermarket filler letters on top to create a cool edge lighting effect.
This is a Custom Kit that utilizes aftermarket filler letters which go on top of these letters. so, you'll need to purchase those separately (if you don't already have some). they come in black, chrome, American flag, etc.
*** BE AWARE! That Red or Amber is probably your best color choice, because white lights on the back of a vehicle that aren't reverse lights *may* be illegal, (but usually a cop's discretion) ***
In the video is my truck I'm running dual LED white and red. Again, I don't recommend white, but it was a proof-of-concept I've kept on my truck.
The dual LED version is currently live. It lights up white normally, but when you hit the brakes. It switches to red LED's and glows red, then goes back white after you release the brakes. There's also a version that's a dim red, then goes bright red when the brakes are hit. Just understand the wiring is a bit more complicated for this dual strip version to work and requires tapping into either of the taillights 12v ground, running light, and brake light wires. There's a custom controller box I designed that's needed for this setup to work properly. but it just sticks in the tailgate.
The single-color version is slightly simpler as you can tap the 12V positive and 12V negative to the trailer plug harness wires.
** Yes, this requires drilling a permanent hole in the tail gate for the wires **
- I do provide a drill guide, so you don't need to guess where the hole needs to be drilled.
You'll need an unfolded wire hanger or some sort of long hook to pull the wires through a vertical baffle on the inside of the tailgate. The hardest part is getting the main cable pulled through one of the holes in the bottom of the tailgate, similar to how the backup camera cable passes through.
Both the LED letters to the tailgate and top letters to my letters attach with 3M VHB tape. (I'll only put tape on the backside of my letters assuming the letters you buy have VHB on them already.)
