This is a beautiful and very rare Eisglas/Overshot compote attributed to the Harrach Glass works. It was made between 1860 AND 1890. I have only seen one other of these compotes outside of a collector's magazine. There is a figural serpent wrapped around the stem of the compote and the outer rim is painted in gold. This is an excellent addition to any Harrach/Overshot/Eisglas collection and is hard to come by.
"The Harrach or Harrachov glassworks gets its name from Alois Raimund von Harrach (Count Harrach), whose estate it was founded on in Bohemia, 1712. ... Bohdan Kadlec ran the company in 1884 - 1900, followed by Jan Mallin until 1913, during which time, Harrachov produced Art Nouveau glassware." 20thCenturyGlass.com
The compote is 7" wide across the top, 6 1/2" tall and 4 3/4" wide at the base. There are no chips or cracks. There is some very minor gold loss on the snake. The gold on the outer rim is 99% intact. The snakes tail appears to be original to when it was snapped off at the glass works as there is paint on the end (please see picture). This compote weighs two pounds. The price not only takes into account the rarity of the item, but extra insurance costs.
