This is a very nice vintage F & JL silver plate on brass hinged lid clam shell shaped serving dish (without the glass insert) made in England. At one time it may have been used to hold caviar, dips or sauces. The silver plate serving dish has a hinged lid that opens with a thumb tab on the back and features an embossed clam shell design with beaded trim on the scalloped edges. It has a small half circle opening to fit a serving spoon handle and has three round feet on the bottom. It is marked "F & JL Made in England" on the inside hinge and "S.P. On Brass" on the bottom. The dish measures approximately 2" tall, 5" long and 4 3/4" wide and is in good vintage condition with wear typical for its age including scratches, scuffs, dings, dents, pitting, tarnish and darkened patina.
