ℹ️ POSTCARD TYPES EXPLAINED
• Pre-Linen postcards are the “most vintage.” They were typically printed on white card stock from the late 1800s through the 1930s (with some crossing into the 40s and 50s). The postmarked cards especially show the evolution of postcards with a variety of backing and writing norms (writing on the front, split back, address-only back, etc).
• Linen postcards were produced from approximately 1931 to 1950. They have a distinct texture and matte look, are uniform in size, and typically (but not always) include a border.
• Chrome cards generally include everything that came after the linen era (1950-2010). They vary widely in size, style, and region. Usually, these cards have a gloss finish of some kind, but some sets may include older cards with different textures.
