Kit is do-it-yourself and is stitched in durable 100% tapestry wool. A wonderful family treasure piece that will last forever.
The canvas has a greek key border and your chosen letter hand-stitch painted onto the mesh. This means each intersection is painted one color so it is very easy to stitch. Hand stitch painted canvases make the needlepointing process quicker, more accurate and stress-free as you know exactly where each stitch goes (this is very important when stitching a precise geometric border such as this one).
Choose upper-case letter and color at checkout. Wool colors to choose from are shown in photos. Two tones of each color are used in the border with the darker shade used for the initial. The background color on all designs is an off-white.
There are two options for this listing with two different prices shown in drop down list at checkout:
1) HANDPAINTED "CANVAS & WOOL" OPTION:
• Border and chosen letter hand-painted in chosen color onto 12 hpi interlock canvas.
• Wool: I supply generous amounts of Appleton 4 ply tapestry 100% wool. Spun and dyed in Buckinghamshire, England, Appleton has been producing high quality wool for 180 years. I love the durability and the shades of Appleton and nothing beats the look and feel of 100% wool. Tapestry wool does not need to be split - you just thread and stitch, it covers the canvas perfectly and provides very even tension;
• Pattern: Colour symbol chart.
• Instructions with enough detail to get a beginner up and running. Includes clear and simple diagrams on how to work the very simple tent stitch, which is a single sloping stitch and is used for the entire design.
• And lastly, a size 20 tapestry needle plus threader (makes threading wool through the needle a breeze).
2) "PILLOW KIT" option includes:
• ALL OF THE ABOVE plus:
• Twill backing fabric to match your color selection;
• Matching piping which is custom made using same material as backing fabric;
• Detailed photo instructions on how to finish as a pillow with piping using hand-sewing (no sewing machine necessary). You only need basic sewing skills to finish into a pillow and can be completed by a beginner sewer;
• An 8"x 8" stuffed pillow insert is available for the 8"x8" sized kit ONLY. Inserts for all other sizes can be purchased on-line or at craft and hobby stores.
The pillow shown in the images was completed using the tent stitch, one of the easiest needlepointing stitches out there. Of all the needlecrafts, I find needlepointing to be the most enjoyable and the least frustrating. Not only are you making something that is one-of-a-kind, it’s therapeutic, relaxing, super easy to master and electronics free!
