An Antique French Jaspé Pottery Pitcher with Lid from the 19th Century with beautiful traditional decoration. Does show some wear typical of this type of pottery with this age. Measures approximately 6 1/2” high by 5 1/4” in diameter; @7" with handle.
This pottery originates from the Savoie region of France and dates from the late-19th to the early-20th century. The traditional glazed treatments, called Jaspé, are usually marble-like swirls of colors or geometric designs composed of lines and dots. The colors are most often in earth tones of rust, green, brown, and yellow. This pottery was largely utilitarian and shows some wear. It is very decorative and looks wonderful with just a few pieces, or as a collection, on a shelf or in a cupboard.
A provincial gem! This French 19 - 20th century Jaspé pottery pitcher / jug will bring an unpretentious presence to any buffet, serving table or kitchen cabinet.
