Listed above is an incredible offset lithograph by folk artist, Ann Reeves, entitled "Manhattan". In this magnificent lithograph, begun as an original oil painting, Ann has done the impossible! She has created a 360 degree view of Manhattan Island as a kaleidoscope image. In it, she depicts all the myriad facets and sights of NYC. Each side, of the four square image, depicts a different ship, paying homage to the reality that Manhattan is, indeed, an island. In this masterful creation, you have the bright lights of Broadway, St. Peter's Cathedral, The Museum of Natural History, The Metropolitan Museum of Art, Lincoln Center, The Metropolitan Opera, The Bowery, Chinatown, Little Italy, Chelsea, Harlem, The George Washington Bridge, etc. etc. etc. etc. The center of the painting depicts four angels trumpeting the glories of Manhattan. There is no wrong way to hang this painting, as each of the four sides shows different scenes of the City. This lithograph measures 26 1/2 inches square. It is signed and dated 1986-1990 because it took Ann four years to complete this piece. It is unframed, which allows you to mat and frame this piece to best compliment your taste and décor. Ann Reeves was born in Newark, NJ and grew up in Parsippany, NJ. She began to illustrate her own stories at the age of four. Upon graduating rom Boonton High School, she received a certificate of merit from Fine Art Galleries of Carnegie Institute. She attended McDowell School of Fashion Design in Manhattan, and worked for a time in the fashion industry. Next came a family and Ann dedicated the next thirty years to raising her four daughters. Once the girls were grown, Ann was free to pursue her artistic interests. Painting in her much loved primitive style, Ann's artwork has won acclaim from many organizations. Her painting entitled "Helping Hand" was selected by the Trenton Artists Workshop to tour Russia in 1990. In 1991, An was selected by Warren County, New Jersey for their annual County Pride Award. A Regional Fellowship in Painting from Mid-Atlantic/National Endowment of the Arts was awarded in 1994. Her oil painting "Berlin Wall Comes Down" has a permanent home in the Deutshes Historishes Museum in Berlin, Germany. The Arts Council of Princeton established the Ann Reeves Artist-in-Residence Program in order to annually provide select artists with opportunities to conceptualize new works while providing the community with opportunities for creative interaction with artists in all disciplines. Numerous awards continued. In 1996 she was honored to be the first One Artist Show sponsored by Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission. She was commissioned by the Atlantic City Convention Center Authority to paint the City. On October 20, 2012, Ann Reeves was inducted into the Warren County Hall of Fame. Her work has been seen around the world from N.J. to Germany...from cruise ships to museum and beyond. Ann's unique folk art style is easily identifiable and features many local scenes, such as street scenes of Hackettstown and the Warren County Farmer's Fair, just to name two. Ann's love for small towns is the theme of many of her paintings. Ann says, "Art just comes naturally to me". Though she has never had formal art instruction, Ann adds, "My art education is going to the Hackettstown Public Library and studying art books. Everything I learned, I taught myself."
