On offer is this lovely wooden cased set of twelve knives, twelve forks and a pair of fish servers. They're in good condition overall, the silver plating shines up well still - notable light scuffs and scratches over them commensurate with age as well as a number of deeper scuffs which have started to expose the base nickel silver (brassy tone); notable ware and fading to the interior lining (please refer to images) but as shown all adding to the aged charm and character of the set.
** Please note there is a notable smell from the case caused by the old adhesive used for the fittings **
They're of traditional form, beautifully decorated with an elegant border edge complete with floral and floral scroll decals which display ever so well still. The handles and reverse sides are plain.
Each piece is marked "Sorley" - retailed by Sorley of Glasgow (Scotland), circa second quarter of the 20th century.
They measure 17cm (6 and 3/4 inches) and 20.2cm (8 inches) in total length - the fish servers 22.5cm (8 and 3/4 inches) and 31.5cm (12 and 1/4 inches) - and all come presented in their original wooden case which is also in good order - scuffs and scratches over the exterior as well as extensive fading and rubbing to the interior lining in places. The almost aqua color really stands out on display. The case is also marked for "Sorley" of Glasgow "Silversmiths to HM The King".
** Please note there is no key for the lock and the 'smell' is more potent when the case is opened **
A lovely cutlery set which despite the condition issues raised is ready to be collected and enjoyed once again!
The postage quote is for a tracked and insured courier service - for international customers postage can be reduced if the case isn't required!
