Neocaridina, aka "Neo Shrimp", are omnivorous scavengers who primarily eat algae, biofilm, decaying plant matter, and any excess fish food that drops to the floor of your tank. Neos benefit from occasional dietary supplementation from good quality commercial shrimp-specific food. They periodically shed their shells and will need a good quality source of calcium. We supplement our shrimp with Gorgeous Gastropods Magic Minerals once a week. This proprietary blend of calcium, vitamins, minerals, and more keeps our shrimp healthy and prevents bad sheds, which can be fatal. You can purchase Magic Minerals in our shop.
Neocaridina shrimp need an alkaline environment. A stable ph anywhere between 7.2 and 8.2 is ideal. We keep ours in a heavily planted, community tank with a temperature of 74 degrees Fahrenheit and a ph of 7.8. They do best in a planted tank with plenty of places to hide. They will need calcium them shed their shells.
The shrimp in this listing are assorted sizes and colors and have been living all mixed together for many generations. They have made some interesting colors and patterns. Some of the colors include very pale blue, yellow, orange, clear, wild type, and various combinations of those colors.
For DOA claims, a picture of the dead shrimp, placed on a white paper towel or sheet of white paper, must be sent within 2 hours of delivery.
We only ship live creatures on Mondays, so they don’t spend the weekend sitting in a postal facility. We ship them using USPS Priority Mail 1-3 day shipping, which does, on occasion take more than 3 days to reach its destination. Orders must be in by 4:00 pm MST (Mountain Standard Time) on Sunday in order to ship that Monday. Orders placed after that will be shipped the following week. That said, if Monday is a holiday, we ship on Tuesday that week.
These shrimp are bred and raised in Sara’s (part owner of Gorgeous Gastropods) personal community tank with fish and a pretty wide variety of snails.
