The White Pitcher Plant Sarracenia Leucophylla is a North American trumpet plant native to Gulf Coast. It has stately white windows that have an elegant effect, especially when grown in a group. It's no wonder you can find these beautiful pitchers decorating places like the Ritz Carlton, although I'm sure the plants aren't keen on ending up on a florist's workbench.
Like most North American pitcher plants, Leucophylla attracts insects with a lovely patch of sweet nectar right at the base of the lid. Insects are drawn to this nectar and are encouraged by tiny downward facing hairs to move down into the pitcher. At some point the insect loses its footing and falls down the tube. At this point the bug slowly converted into plant food through digestion by enzymes and bacteria. Yum yum!
Your new plant is a mature plant that fits well in a 3.5" pot. It is a division taken last year from a mother plant and has mature pitchers at least 14" tall (often taller). Growing instructions will be included.
If you choose the bare rooted option, you plant will undergo shock and the pitchers will die back. This is normal and your plant will bounce back a month or two.
Shipping, Soil & Pots
Your plant will be shipped with its roots carefully wrapped in a damp long fiber sphagnum moss. If you choose to add on soil and pots, you will receive a carnivorous-plant-safe 3.5" square plastic containers and a bag with enough carnivorous plant soil to fill it (may be either my mix of peat/perlite/sand, or long fiber sphagnum).
