New kits come with a film protecting BOTH sides of the plexiglass. Peeling this film off reveals a perfectly clear splashguard. Leaving the film in place is, of course, also fine and may prolong the life of your splashguard.
Made from PETG plastic, brass, and plexiglass, this kit is 100% waterproof. Get it dirty and wash it. It won't mind!
