Gorgeous Victorian coin purse made from fresh water mussel shells and silver. It has a hinge and a clasp that shuts nice. The top is decorated with leaves made of brass and has a bail so it can be hung from a chatalaine.
The use of shells as purses dates from the end of the nineteenth century, when the Victorians love of the natural world and passion for collecting seashells coincided with the middle classes being able to take holidays and go to the seaside. Purses like this one were created as souvenirs for visitors to sea side resorts.
Dimensions: 3.5” x 1.5”
It is in good antique condition, no chips or cracks and the clasp is secure.
Please Note: The items I sell are not new, they are vintage or antiques, it goes without saying that there maybe some imperfections which I will try my best to point out and take pictures of.

Please ask questions, what maybe important to you may not be to me and vice versa...I want you to love your purchase.
