The true story of Mama Juana. Mamajuana was invented as a branded herbal medicine in the 1950s by Jesus Rodriguez. Contrary to other stories you may have heard or read, it has nothing to do with the Taino Indians of the Caribbean. As the drink became more and more popular for its health benefits, the government under President Rafael Trujillo sought to arrest anyone who was selling Mama Juana without a certified medical license. In the 1970s, Rodriguez fled to the United States and relocated to Manhattan, New York. Today, natives gather in the wild and produce these wild natural herbs, each using their own blend of plant and herb species. It is a popular item sold to the locals and tourists in bottled form and also made available for consumption at local restaurant, pubs and Resorts.
It is said, “Whatever Tortures you, Mamajuana takes care of it”. Traditionally, Mamajuana is mixed with sweet wine, rum, honey & molasses to produce a sweet rum liqueur. It is a vitality stimulant for both men and women.
