This is a scaled down replica of an Easter Island Head (Moai) sculpture. I base my stylized version of the Moai sculpture Hoa Hakananai'a (meaning 'lost, hidden, or stolen friend') currently located in the British Museum in London. I’ve always found the Moai sculptures mysterious and magical. For my front yard I created a 72” high Moai. The small version I have listed measures (7.75” H x 4.375” W x 4“ D) and weighs approximately 3lb. 7oz. I made the smaller version as part of a lesson I was teaching on the history of the Moai. Some students commented on how the sturdy base of the sculpture also made it a "cool" headphone stand.
My Moai cement interior / exterior castings are given a blue/gray stone patina. Each sculpture is hand painted, so a slight variation in color and pattern will vary from the displayed photos. Historical information is inscribed on the back of the casting. The text is in (small) 9 point font, and the shading on the lettering can vary slightly from the displayed photo. This is because each sculpture is hand painted. The inscription on the back of the casting reads.
MOAI
Off the coast of Chile is located one of the most remote islands in the world. Easter island (Rapa Nui) is known for its mysterious Moai sculptures, believed to represent spirits of the Rapa Nui ancestors. The Rapa Nui people carved the Moai monoliths from volcanic ash stone. To date, 900 Moai sculptures have been discovered. The sculptures date between 1100 - 1600 CE and range in size from 13 - 33 feet tall.
