Thanks to its amazing beauty and unique properties, silk fabrics have been used by the wealthy and royalty for over six millennia. Today, silk is used everywhere in fashion and household furnishings.
The word "ikat" came from the Indonesian verb "mengikat" - which means "to tie, twist everything around." Uzbek Ikat abrband is unique to the region, and is the most complex, handmade weaving technique known to date. Ikat abrband ("abr" = cloud, "band" = tying), is created by first tying silk bundles together, then dipping them in hot water dyes. After the bundles of silk have dried, the ties are removed revealing beautiful natural colors. This unwrapping is referred to as "untying the cloud."
Uzbek silk is a wonderful natural fabric. Visible imperfections -
Discrepancies, the convergence of threads, unevenness in dying, and thick nodules within the fabric show that this is genuine handmade silk - silk which bears the memory and the knowledge accumulated over thousands of years.
The process of handmade silk production has experienced a revival thanks to the growing interest in fashion and apparel. After all, natural silk and cotton without synthetic fiber and impurities are loved and appreciated by many fashion designers.

For cleaning and maintenance - Dry clean. For stains, gently spot clean with a damp rag and a small amount of liquid detergent. The silk can also be steamed lightly to remove any wrinkles or unwanted odors. This silk should be ironed on the lowest silk setting with a towel on top of the silk to prevent damage — air dry.
Keep out of direct sunlight for extended periods as this can fade the colors in the silk.
