Mushrooms just got flashy! Handmade spore print from real Agaricus xanthoderma (yellow staider) mushroom spores on gold archival paper. An 8"X10" original spore print on high-quality, gold mylar archival paper with a cardstock backing. Agaricus spores are a chocolate brown. Very rich and tempting! These Agaricus were found in Benton County, Oregon during September 2020. The spore "print" is created by actual fungal spores which dropped from the mushroom's gills when laid flat on archival paper. There is no ink in this print aside from the species and date label. Additional details: Spore prints are not “prints” in a traditional artist’s sense--a copy of an original. All my prints are originals made with the actual spores (reproductive structures) of the mushroom which are expelled from below the gills when laid on archival paper. This process yields a beautiful inverse representation of the gills and sometimes shows “rogue” spores drifting around willy-nilly! After the spores create a unique shape on the paper, I seal them with archive quality fixative to ensure that the tiny particles do not smudge and retain their color forever. That said, please be gentle with this print, as it is created with dust-like spores that could become dislodged if scraped. There may be slight warping on the archival paper around the patterns of your print. Mushrooms need to sit covered for 8-48 hours in order to drop their spores and create a defined print. During this time, moisture in the mushroom can warp the paper. Typically, the larger the mushroom, the more distortion is possible. I press all prints with weight, but some may have a small amount of unrectifiable curvature to the paper itself. I implore you to think of any slight wrinkling as part of the charm of genuine art created by Mother Nature! Spore prints are a fantastic addition to your cabinet of curiosities, at your desk, or hanging wherever you need a visual reminder to sit back and let all your spores fall out! **IMPORTANT NOTE** All my prints are sprayed with an archival fixative which kills the spores and seals them permenantly to the paper. It is not possible to consume or cultivate your own mushrooms from the print.
