A fine 19th century American repousse pewter silver plated flask. A bulbous oval form with a decent weighty feel and fits comfortably in the hand. It has the lid, which is often missing on these earlier flasks, with the cork seal still intact. The rear is engraved with 'G.C.Devin, Mt.Vernon' in elegant script. This rich floral repousse design is typical of hip flasks dating back to the American Civil War.
This wonderful hip flask is at least 125 years old and still in great, working condition. There is some silver plating wear on the rear edges (Photo 7) and on the raised motif in the centre (Photo 4). Please note that the front of the flask has been pushed in (Photo 6), but it certainly does not detract from its overall beauty. Please assess the photos and video carefully as they are an integral part of the buying process, and let us know if you need any further details or photos?
