Her story is one of profound significance, blending faith, culture, and miracles. The story of Our Lady of Guadalupe dates back to December 9, 1531, in what is now Mexico City. It was there that a humble indigenous man named Juan Diego had a series of apparitions of the Virgin Mary. During these encounters, the Lady, as she identified herself, instructed Juan Diego to go to the bishop and request the construction of a church on the hill of Tepeyac. However, when Juan Diego delivered the message to the bishop, he was met with skepticism. The bishop requested a sign to confirm the authenticity of Juan Diego's story. In response, the Lady instructed Juan Diego to gather roses from the barren hilltop of Tepeyac, despite it being winter. Juan Diego obeyed and gathered the roses in his tilma, a rough cloak. When Juan Diego presented the roses to the bishop, they fell to the ground, revealing a miraculous image of the Virgin Mary imprinted on his tilma. This image, known as the Virgin of Guadalupe, displayed a mestiza appearance, blending indigenous and Spanish features. It was a powerful symbol of unity and a message of hope to the oppressed indigenous people of Mexico. The tilma, which should have deteriorated within a few years due to the poor quality of the cactus cloth, has been preserved for centuries and remains on display at the Basilica of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico City. The apparitions of Our Lady of Guadalupe are seen as a sign of her maternal care for all people, especially the marginalized. She is revered as the Patroness of the Americas and the Empress of Latin America. Her feast day is celebrated on December 12th, marking the anniversary of her final appearance to Juan Diego. Our Lady of Guadalupe is a symbol of faith, unity, and the transformative power of miracles. Her image continues to inspire millions of believers worldwide, reminding them of the enduring presence of the Virgin Mary and the importance of her message of love and compassion. ***PLEASE NOTE - Due to the different dimensions of the sizes available the image may or may not be cropped on the top or bottom, once you select the size you want you should see exactly the image set to those dimensions, and that is what you will receive!
