This charming French book dates from the 1930s and showcases a young girl's Reccommodage exercises for school. "Raccommodage" in French means "mending" or "repairing," typically in the context of sewing or fixing clothes. It involves techniques for patching, darning, or otherwise restoring garments to extend their life. This is her book of work for class.
In those days, sewing, embroidery, lace-making, and mending were essential skills that girls were required to learn. I discovered two books from the same little girl, capturing her diligent work. To find the other book, simply search my store for "school book." The handwriting and skill demonstrations are filled with character, offering a heartfelt glimpse into the past and what was expected of young girls. She has carefully labeled each page with her handwritten notes on each demonstration. This book has about 6 pages with the addition of some blank pages at the back. Some of the textiles have come unstuck so they are free floating in the book! ~*~ It's a true treasure!
This little book measures approximately : 10 inches by 8 inches
Condition . There are some age marks on some of the pages, some discoloration ~ it's an amazing document, with signs of time and use to be expected ~ just wonderful!
