100% raw, unrefined Batana oil.
Batana Oil (Elaeis oleifera) and West African (Elaeis guineensis) are unrefined oils treasured in Honduras and West Africa. Both come from the kernels of the palm tree and are remarkably similar in look, smell, and texture, with a rich, earthy aroma and crumbly, creamy consistency.
Our Batana oil is unrefined and organic and is the purest, darkest, traditional roasted form without any admixture with other oils or ingredients. Roasting is the traditional method used by local producers. When you roast Batana kernels, it comes out very dark in color. The darkest oils are actually the most expensive and hardest to find because they are the purest. Not enough oil comes from roasting the kernels. You'll need thousands of kernels to produce a full drum of oil. This has led to many sellers mixing the Batana with other oils. Some even mix it with the red palm oil, which comes from the fruit of the palm.
It can be hard to tell which oil is pure or unmixed because the initial oil that comes from the first phase of roasting the kernels is very black in color and has a very strong scent that will overpower any oil it is mixed with.
But one way to tell is the color of the oil. The traditionally roasted Batana shouldn't be any other color but brown to dark brown. Sometimes, the outer shells of the kernels are crushed and blended into the oil which produces a mid-brown color. The cold pressed has no shades of brown whatsoever. Cold pressed Batana is ivory white, exactly the same color as the kernel nut, because the brown color only comes as a result of the roasting. Cold pressed oils do not use heat hence the name ''cold pressed. '' So therefore, genuine cold-pressed Batana oil cannot be brown, only ivory white.
Our oil is pure and comes solely from the kernel and is not mixed with anything. So you'll have the richest top-quality, darkest traditional Batana oil with the most beautiful smell and texture. It has a rich, coffee aroma and a crumbly, creamy consistency that melts beautifully on your skin and hair. Packed with essential fatty acids, antioxidants, and vitamins, they are perfect for nourishing and restoring hair and skin naturally.
Whilst both oils are great for hair health, the West African oil is higher in lauric acid which has strong antimicrobial properties and is one of the best fatty acids for people with sensitive skin, eczema, and acne-prone skin. The South American Batana is much higher in oleic acid and may not be suitable if you have acne or sensitive skin.
Please note that this oil is temperature-sensitive. It hardens at room temperature and when placed in the fridge. It will arrive to you hardened but it can also melt when placed in a high-heat environment. Also, shipping conditions may affect the solidity of the oil. If it arrives melted, simply pop it back into the fridge to harden. If you prefer it melted, simply fill a container with warm (not hot) water and pop the batana jar inside the container. The oil will then melt. You can pop it back in the fridge if you want it to harden again.
This oil is more effective for hair when mixed with rosemary oil. Studies show that both lauric acid and oleic acid work well as carriers for hair growth oils like rosemary. This means they can carry rosemary oil into the hair follicles much deeper.
