Carpet plants grow very fast. Micranthemum callitrichoides ’—often called “HC” or “Dwarf Baby Tears”—is one of the smallest-leaved foreground plants in the aquarium hobby. This bright green carpeting plant is perfect for creating dense, lush foregrounds or Iwagumi-style layouts. Its miniature, rounded leaves make it ideal for nano aquascapes or large tanks looking for a fine, detailed carpet. Though similar in appearance to Hemianthus micranthemoides, HC stays much lower to the substrate, spreading horizontally to form a rich mat just 3–5 cm tall when properly maintained. To achieve a compact carpet, plant in small clumps a few centimeters apart. Under high light and with injected CO₂, HC ’ will spread quickly by runners and form a dense, cohesive foreground.
