This leather bound book is stunningly beautiful in the inside and out. The content is fascinating due to the timeperiod in which it was written. It gives athe history of the nation through the year year it was published, offering a historic glimpse into public perception of America and its history from nearly a century and a half ago. This rare book is an excellent educational resource for students, teachers, and lifelong learners alike.
This antique book has been very well preserved over the past 150+ years and remains in great condition. It is bound in a quarter leather binding over brown pebbled boards. The top of the leather spine has been rubbed, resulting in a lightening of color. The spine has gold gilt text to match the text on the front cover, both bright and easily legible. The corners of the book are also capped in leather and show some minor rubbing. The spine features five decorative raised bands, giving a distinguished look to the book’s exterior. The binding is tight and secure, and while the endpapers that cover the interior joints aafe both cracked, the hinges themselves are solidly intact and firmly holding the covers to the spine. An neat script signature from a previous owner is written in ink on the first blank page of the book. Otherwise, the pages seem to be completely clean and free of markings, although each page wasn’t inspected individually. The pages are still a bright white, easily legible, and still boast sharp, crisp corners. The beautifully illustrated and full-color, double-page plates are all still present, clean, and brightly colored. This book contains a total of 709 printed pages, including a handful of Appendices and an Index at the end of the book. These Appendices contain documents such as The Constitution of the United States, Franklin’s Constitution, Washington’s Farewell Address, The Emancipation Proclamation, etc. This book concludes with a thorough alphabetical Index. All and all, this is a scarcely found American History textbook that is as captivating as it is stunningly beautiful. It remains in Very Good condition, both on the inside and out. It would make an excellent gift or a wonderful addition to any history lover’s bookshelf! A historic American gem to be enjoyed for generations to come!
