Ahimsa Silk, which is theorised by Ahimsa way of life, is a silk produced without killing the creatures, that crafted it. This silk, is a step towards appreciation and support of the beautiful soul and nature that created it.
Peace silk matches the luxurious aesthetics of spun silk, which is more opaque and textured than your traditional glossy silk and which is loved for its muted and elevated elegance. It is also irresistibly soft, with a tendency to get softer with every use. At the same time Peace silk is one of the most durable and strong fibres.
In its fibre it packs great hypoallergenic and thermo-regulating properties, making it the ideal companion throughout the seasons even for the most delicate skins.
Ahimsa mulberry silk with khadi cotton is voile like lightweight, airy fabric that features semi-sheer uneven finish with a silky soft fall.
The sheerness of this fabric makes it perfect for romantic, layered garments. It’s often used as an overlayer on top of a lining or stacked in multiple layers to make the finished garment opaque enough to wear. Furthermore, silk cotton can be made into home and event décor like curtains, cushion covers, table covers, ribbons and gift or product drawstring bags.
It haven’t been coated or chemically treated so is ready to be dyed.
Mulberry Peace Silk is produced from Bombyx mori silkworms that eat exclusively mulberry leaves. They are raised mostly indoor in cottages, cocoons are all allowed to hatch and breed, and the silk is processed from the hatched cocoons. In some cases, the cocoons can be pierced or cut open to aid the pupa to come out.
Khadi is made from cotton.
It is a versatile fabric that remains cool in summer and warm in winter.
The difference between Khadi and other handloom fabrics is apparent in the texture. The small weaving errors or unevenness give it the particular Khadi charm.
While, it is necessary for Khadi fabrics to be made using hand spun yarn, no such boundation is put on handloom fabrics.
It's production does not involve use of chemicals and the colour reveals a natural shade of the silk cocoons. It is made entirely by hand.
The irregularities and colour differentiations within the weave makes each piece unique and is a reminder of the handmade process and natural materials used.
Peace fabric due to its nature will work beautifully made into any more rustic garments or soft home décor and furnishings.
Hand-woven fabrics are bound to have some defects not usually present in industrially produced fabric on account of being made by hand. These “imperfections” are intrinsic to the beauty of the textile and give them an ethnic appeal.
The handloom industry is a perfect example of sustainable production. Every step of the handloom process is sustainable, from installation, fabric choice, dyeing and weaving. The natural fibers used are biodegradable and are not produced with many chemicals and resources. The loom is manually operated - no energy or water is required and no carbon emissions are released.
Handloom fabrics can are a little bit more expensive. Weavers put a lot of focus on delivering high quality products made with the right material. Moreover since handloom is reliant on human labor, it takes a lot longer to create a fabric.
100% biodegradable to help our the nature as well as the mankind.
It is also very easy to dye.
