One of the finest quality rings I've had so far this year, this stunning signet dates from 1916 and bears a wonderful monogram for the initials 'JD' or 'DJ'.
Made of solid 18 carat gold, it's thick and heavy and fabulously comfortable, as expected from a designer quality antique piece.
Its extremely wide band tapers perfectly with hardly any shoulder at all, to the flat oval head. The hand engraved lettering is expertly done, with ornate flourishes and clever shading, producing implied perspective that differentiates one letter from the other.
Inside the band hides a crisp, clear and highly sought-after full English hallmark for John Henry Wynn, of 42/44 Hylton Street, Birmingham - this ring having been assayed in the now defunct Chester office in 1916. It's in incredible condition for its age and due to its quality will remain so for many decades to come. It's a size 8, and is resizeable a little if needed. It weighs 7.9 grams and measures 14 x 11 mm across the head.
