General Details for Appalachian Woods Mantels.
All our mantels are one of a kind reclaimed beams mainly out of turn of the century barns located here in Virginia. A combination of unique characteristics such as checks, cracks, mortise pockets, handhewn marks, saw marks, nail holes or wormholes give each piece a unique look and make them a great conversation piece in your house.
All our mantels go through a process of reclaiming. The taking down of the barn (often by the owner of the company himself). Partial de-nailing (some of the beams might still have hardware in them which also adds to the unique look), carefully power washed and then either high temperature kiln dried or treated with Bora-Care (a unique green glycol mixture) to prevent insects from using the wood as a food source in the future.
If you need the mantel cut to a different length, you can choose the custom length option in the drop down menu. If you do so, just send me a message after the purchase with the exact length and we will cut the mantel to the length you need.
