These sweaters were originally made for fishermen and other workers to protect from the harsh climate along the Nordic coast. Wool is able to absorb perspiration into the heart of its fiber, it keeps a layer of dry air next to the skin. This capacity to internalize moisture while maintaining a dry exterior is what makes wool an excellent temperature regulator. As the body temperature rises the wool has the amazing ability to transfer heat and moisture along every fibre and release it into the cooler, drier environment, and when its cold it keeps the heat in.
