"I have been incredibly lucky to have tutored workshops at The Green Hotel in Mysore, India on several occasions and it was while I was there a few years ago that I came across a bedspread for sale in the hotel fair-trade craft shop. The quilt was a real melting pot of design elements. Featuring patchwork block pieces with small areas of orange, red and green fabrics surrounded by a predominance of indigo dyed block printed fabrics, each part of the blanket was different. It also included kantha stitching and ornate embroidered shisha mirrors. I was
instantly in love and bought it without a second thought and it now takes pride of place in my living room, reminding me of my wonderful trip to India every day.
Although I am in no way a serious sewer, I really love using quilt layouts as inspiration for my designs, so my fabulously over-the-top Indian bedspread became the inspiration for this project. I loved designing it and especially enjoyed using a traditional granny square as the
template for many of the motifs. I hope you will love it as much as I do!
