This is a Korean style trimming tool made from soft iron. It has a blade not only on the tip but also on the inside of the tool's L-shape bend, this makes trimming large quantities of clay very efficient. This makes it the trimming tool chosen by a large number of Korean potters as it works well with pieces that have been thrown off the hump and have excess clay in the base.
This is the very same metal used by Moon Byung Sik (Moon Dobang) and many other well-known Korean potters.
This tool is hand made by me so it may very slightly in appearance to the photo.
Please clean and dry the tool after each use otherwise it will get a fine patina of rust along the blade.
PLEASE NOTE
Because this tool is made of soft steel and not hardened steel it holds a blade differently, a soft steel blade will not chatter as the blade cannot be sharpened to as fine a point as hardened steel without flaking apart. This kind of soft steel blade is best suited to trim clay that is softer rather than drier.
