Up for offer is a stunning heavy solid sterling silver custom twist chain and Macedonian Greek "Vergina" Sun symbol medallion pendant necklace. This necklace features a custom 2.5mm thick solid sterling silver rope twist chain with a lobster claw clasp. The pendant is marked "925" and the chain is marked "925".
This symbol is associated with the Macedonian Green royal dynasty of Philip II who was Alexander The Great's Father. The symbol was commonly used as a decorative motif on Hellenistic coins, shields, vases, etc. Famously a golden box from Philip II tomb is decorated with this symbol. The symbol usually has 16,12 or 8 "rays" and sometimes it was a religious symbol connected with the 12 Olympian gods.
