This is an impressive heavy-bodied species that makes a spectacular display tarantula as it stays out in the open most of the time. Of the large, terrestrial spiders, this is certainly one of the most beautiful. These rather bold creatures begin to have adult coloration early on, making them them look like miniature adults when they are still quite young. They are hardy, easy to care for, and feeding time is always a spectacle!    New World, Terrestrial Size: Can reach up to 8.5″ Growth Rate:  Medium-Fast. After about eight months, I have some from the same sac that range from 2″ to nearly 4″. Natural Habitat: They are native to Brazil where the average temperature is in the mid 70s. Housing Needs: Terrestrial setup. Humidity needs are low. My large female frequently splashes water from her water dish onto the substrate to make a moist area to sit on. Temperament and Defensiveness: They have urticating hairs that can be very irritating. Kicking these hairs is their first line of defense. Their venom potency is said to be ‘average’, but they do have very large fangs.
