Buchloe dactyloides Texoka variety Low-growing warm-season prairie native
This sod-forming grass is well-suited for lawns and meadows in arid regions with a minimum rainfall of 12". Provides good erosion control on ranges and pastures which do not contain much sand. Spreads by seed and surface runners which root as they go, stabilizing the soil. Can be closely grazed (1"-3") and is palatable to all classes of livestock, except when dormant. As a lawn, it is slow-growing but almost indestructible once established.
Application Rate: Lawns - 3-4 lb/1000 sq ft. For pasture, the rate is 8-10 lb/acre
Inoculant: None needed
Germination: 7-30 Days
Plant Height: 5"
Days to Maturity: 3-4 months
Uses: Erosion control, lawns, pasture
Facts to Note: Tolerates drought, cold winter, poor soil, traffic, and remains pest and disease-free if not over-watered or over-fertilized. Turns brown from early fall to late spring. For winter green-up, interplant with Blue Wildrye. Seed comes treated with potassium nitrate to help germination. For best results, plant in summer with irrigation until established.
