This 1942 map of India was created by French commercial artist Jacques Mercier for the 7 Jours magazine series. It documents the subcontinent during World War II, just five years before independence transformed the region. Mercier captured British India at a crucial historical moment, showing territorial boundaries and place names as they existed during the final years of colonial rule. Mercier's background in commercial art shows in his approach. He balanced cartographic accuracy with visual appeal, creating something that works both as historical documentation and wall art. The boundaries, place names, and territorial divisions reveal how British administrators organized the region.  This reproduction print has been carefully remastered from a digital scan of the original 1942 map. Like all our historical reproductions, this vintage map is printed on premium paper in our San Diego facility. We maintain the detail and color accuracy that makes Mercier's original work worth preserving.
