* Grass (Forage) Fed -Grass and forage shall be the feed source consumed for the lifetime of the ruminant animal, with the exception of milk consumed prior to weaning. The diet shall be derived solely from forage consisting of grass (annual and perennial), forbs (e.g., legumes, Brassica), browse, or cereal grain crops in the vegetative {pre-grain) state. Animals cannot be fed grain or grain byproducts and must have continuous access to pasture during the growing season. Hay, haylage, baleage, silage, crop residue without grain, and other roughage sources may also be included as acceptable feed sources.

Routine mineral and vitamin supplementation may also be included in the feeding regimen. If incidental supplementation occurs due to inadvertent exposure to non-forage feedstuffs or to ensure the animal's well being at all times during adverse environmental or physical conditions, the producer must fully document (e.g., receipts, ingredients, and tear tags) the supplementation that occurs including the amount, the frequency, and the supplements provided.

Warning

Due to the bitterness of hydrolyzed whey protein this product is not as smooth tasting as our Whey Protein Isolate and 100% Whey products. If taste is a concern for you, this might not be the right product.

Directions:

Mix one serving (1 level scoop) with 6 to 8 ounces of water, milk or milk substitute, or beverage of your choice. Muscle Feast proteins will mix with just a few turns of a spoon, are free of "thickening agents", and are most importantly all natural.

Ingredients

What is it?

Grass-Fed & Hormone Free Premium Protein Blend is a combination of our Whey Isolate, Hydrolyzed Whey, and Micellar Casein. By combining proteins with varying digestion rates of absorption, the body can maintain longer periods of amino acid levels to promote protein synthesis.

For example, hydrolyzed whey and whey isolate ingestion lead to a rapid spike in amino acid levels, increasing muscle protein synthesis more than micellar casein. On the other hand, micellar casein tends to have a more anti-catabolic effect than whey isolates and prolongs muscle protein synthesis to a greater extent. In theory, combining these varying rates of digested protein leads to significant increases in lean muscle mass and shorter recovery times than when ingested separately.

Whey Protein Isolate

Whey Isolates are 90-98% pure protein that digests and absorbs rapidly and is, gram for gram, one of the highest quality forms of protein available. This purity level is achieved through a cold, cross-micro, and ultra-filtration process that removes the larger, less absorbent protein molecules; while also filtering out fat, and ash.

Hydrolyzed Whey Protein

Whey hydrolysates are pre-digested proteins. This means the long chains of amino acids typically found in isolates and concentrates are broken down into single amino acids. Ultimately, this makes hydrolysates the fastest digesting protein source. Hydrolysates also enhance protein synthesis when combined with lower doses (less than 15 grams) of other forms of protein.

Micellar Casein

Unlike the whey isolates and concentrates, Micellar Casein digests and absorbs more slowly. Because it is digested slowly and leads to a relatively sustained increase in amino acids, micellar casein seems to inhibit protein breakdown to a greater extent than whey protein. It prolongs muscle protein synthesis (MPS) times. However, it does not elevate amino acid levels in the blood to the extent whey proteins do. As opposed to caseinate, micellar casein is isolated from milk by filtration rather than by use of acid or heat. This filtration method preserves the protein's structural integrity and provides many biologically active compounds that have direct immune and physiological benefits.

What does the research say?

A 2006 study conducted by Kerksick et al. examined the influence of a “fast” protein source (whey) compared to a blend of fast and slow proteins (whey and casein), ingested post-exercise over a 10-week period of resistance training. Subjects who ingested the blend of fast and slow protein showed significantly greater increases in muscle mass (+1.8 kg) than those who ingested only the fast protein.

Who is it best for?

Blends are best for individuals who want to reap the benefits from having multiple sources of protein included in one powder.

How quickly does it digest/absorb and raise amino acid levels?

No research exists at this point showing how quick and how long protein blends elevate amino acid concentrations in the blood, but in theory, it should fall somewhere in the middle between whey and casein.

When is the best time to take it?

Protein blends are best taken 30-60 minutes pre-workout, immediately post workout, between meals or even right before bed.
