In the play of symmetries of the Utrecht armchair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld resonates a clear and dynamic graphic rhythm marked by the juxtaposition of orthogonal elements. Today Cassina presents a new outdoor version of this iconic armchair, that bears the same name as its creator's hometown, with materials and upholstery studied for outdoor environments. Utrecht XL Outdoor preserves the unmistakable aesthetics of the original model, imbued with references to the De Stijl movement of which Rietveld was one of the major exponents. A perfect synthesis of experimentation and comfort, this reinterpretation for the outdoors maintains the same aesthetic and construction characteristics as the Utrecht XL, the larger version of the model developed by Cassina to meet the needs of new generations, offering a more ample and comfortable seat. The Utrecht XL Outdoor’s soft padding in recycled PET wadding is protected by a water-repellent canvas that envelops the inner metal structure and the okoumè wood armrests to prevent water from permeating the armchair. The raised and adjustable feet also allow the model to be better placed in open spaces. Utrecht XL Outdoor is upholstered in new textures and patterns inspired by Mediterranean landscapes that draw on the warm and evocative notes of terracotta, the soothing nuances of green and the intense hues of turquoise. The armchair is also available in a Favignana fabric version featuring floral patterns crafted through a jacquard process to create a true visual spectacle. Its geometries are also embellished with visible zips, available in five colours to match or combine with the new palette.
