The lift pump sends diesel to lubricate the pump's crankcase first. Then, the fuel moves to the MPROP (volume control valve), which meters it before directing it to the pump heads. After compression, the fuel is sent to the high-pressure lines, rails, and injectors. The CP4 pump's weakness is in the crankcase, where roller lifters/buckets ride on a camshaft.
