In response to the need for a smaller, more maneuverable weapon for our Airborne troops the M1 carbine was fitted with a folding stock in 1942. This "paratrooper model" was designated the M1A1 and various versions were used through WWII into the Vietnam era. This model is based on the 1944 M1.
