For their inaugural multi-sensory partnership, two beloved, innovative Brooklyn-based institutions (one a cult-favorite newcomer, the other on the eve of its 200th anniversary) join forces to evoke the seasons, settings and spirit of Utagawa Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo in vivid, meticulous detail. This project was inspired by the exhibition Hiroshige’s 100 Famous Views of Edo (feat. Takashi Murakami), which presents the Brooklyn Museum’s complete set of 118 prints by the famed Japanese print designer for the first time in more than two decades. The print series is displayed alongside a special installation of new paintings by Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, created in direct response to Hiroshige’s designs.
