Haitian Maskriti oil or Black Castor oil has a special scent due to the grilling and boiling of the seeds taken from wild growing tree. Haitian Castor Oil, also called ‘lwil maskriti’, 'Maskreti Lakay' or 'Palma Christi' (Latin for the palm of Christ), as it’s called in Haiti, is well known and highly regarded for aiding and stimulating hair growth, rejuvenating and nourishing scalp, and skin. Straight from Haiti, the Castor Oil has been used for centuries and it has been said that it has the highest amount of ricinoleic acid than any other oil (e.g. Jamaican Black Castor Oil), which is the key to its ability to heal and carry moisture to hair, skin, and body. The Castor beans are roasted to preserve the benefits of the oil. It is golden in colour, thick, and potent and you can tell from the roasted ash smell.
