Litespeed Watia - A High-Performing Titanium Gravel Bike

No question there are so many gravel bike options available by now, it can sometimes make it hard to choose. The Litespeed Watia is trying to make your choice much easier by giving you a very high performing titanium multi-surface capable bike at a fantastic price.

Litespeed has been helpful in providing a pronunciation guide for Watia, which you may need if you don’t come from their region. It’s pronounced wAH-chUH. The name comes from the Watia Creek in North Carolina's Nantahala National Forest, an awe inspiring trail, well off the beaten path. It’s exactly the type of place that you’ll want to take your new Litespeed Watia because this is a gravel bike that is made to eat up miles and miles of washboard fire roads mixed with the occasional paved road to connect the dots. With its road-like geometry and large tire clearance, it offers a ride quality that is both nimble, yet comfortable and stable enough for the roughest roads. Considering Litespeed’s other gravel bikes, the Watia brings a more adventure focused ride to complement the all-road Cherohala, and race-oriented Ultimate Gravel.

Made from cold-worked 3AL/2.5V titanium, the Watia’s top tube is ovalized at the seat tube/seatstay junction to help absorb road vibrations without sacrificing lateral stiffness. Meanwhile, the horizontally ovalized downtube interacts with the PP30 bottom bracket to ensure superior power transfer. And if you prefer threaded BBs, a T47 threaded bottom bracket upgrade is available. The beauty of working with titanium becomes even more apparent when you see the CNC-machined titanium plate on the driveside chainstay which increases chainring and tire clearance. It’s a clever solution that maintains the rear triangle’s classic look without sacrificing any of the tire clearance that modern gravel grinders demand. Speaking of tire size, the Watia offers a wide range of versatility since with a 700c wheel you can go up to 45mm tires while a 650b wheelset is also compatible and allows for up to a 53mm wide tire.

Something also new with the Watia compared to its other gravel options is the possibility of upgrading to totally internal cable routing for a clean aesthetic and quiet functionality. If you are more interested in easy maintenance they do offer external cable routing on this frame as well. If you are focused on race day performance, and perhaps don’t do your own wrenching, then internal will seem the way to go. But if you are all about getting out on multi-day trips into the unknown, then having the external cables and the ease of repair they offer might be most important. Along those lines, the Watia comes standard with three water bottle mounts and fender mounts. And for a little surcharge you can have rack mounts as well. So this could be the ultimate backpacker’s fast ride. Top tube storage mounts are also available upon request and for a touch more money.

Embrace the Gravel Revelation with the Litespeed Watia

The Litespeed Watia is handmade at the Litespeed factory in Tennessee and can be ordered as a frame to be built up exactly as you like or in a number of build options. It comes in six stock sizes and can be ordered with custom geometry. If you haven’t ridden a Ti frame on gravel before, taking the Watia out on your first ride will be a revelation.

Also check Argon 18 gravel & CX bikes.
