These "painted ladies" are sketches from the 1800s and were acquired from the Library of Congress. I'm not sure their original purpose, but the writing on them is from the original sketches. One was sketched for the Study of Botany and one was sketched for the Study of Painting. The original sketch included a rough detail of a branch in this lady's hand, and I completed the sketch with my own swashes of paint.
