For sale is a 12 gauge side-by-side shotgun made in Spain by Laurona. The gun is branded "Essex," which was a brand sold by the Belknap Hardware Company and actually was supplied shotguns typically by the Crescent-Davis Firearms Company in Connecticut, a factory that built inexpensive shotguns to be rebranded and sold out of catalogs. However, this piece seems to be an exception and is made instead by Laurona in Spain. The shotgun's date code can date it to 1970 and is built with a boxlock construction and color case-hardened receiver. The shotgun has engravings of pointing hunting dogs on either side and other decorative additions throughout. The barrels are 27 ¾" long and have 2 ¾" chambers. The barrels are joined by a solid checkered rib with single brass bead and a have fixed chokes: the left barrel has a full choke and the right has a modified choke. The shotgun uses a single-piece extractor and has double triggers. The shotgun has hardwood furniture with a straight English-style stock with satin finish and a splinter-style forend with a glossier finish. Both pieces of wood are checkered and the stock has a checkered plastic buttplate. The shotgun is in fairly good condition. The wood has no cracks or significant damage, only showing cosmetic wear. The barrels have no rust or pitting and are clean. The barrel fitment is solid and the barrel solders are intact.
