For sale is an early 20th Century English side-by-side shotgun chambered in 12 gauge. This shotgun is marked as made by Charles F. Liversidge in Gainsborough, England—a small town just east of Sheffield. Charles shared a shop with John Liversidge—likely his brother or father—for a number of years before becoming the sole businessman at their address. C.F. Liversidge has been known to deal in guns between 1867 and 1920, thus this shotgun likely being one of the later pieces from him. The shotgun is chambered for 2 ½" 12 gauge shells and has 28" barrels. The barrels are joined by a textured grooved rib with a single brass bead. These barrels are Damascus steel and have been previously sleeved to strengthen the walls for regular usage. The left barrel is marked as choked, but bore measurements are not present and the restrictions on both bores is unknown. The shotgun is built with a boxlock construction and utilizes a crossbolt lockup mechanism. The shotgun uses a single-piece extractor and double triggers. The metal on the barrels and receiver have been blacked, or rust-blued, though nearly all of the original finish has worn away on the receiver. The receiver, barrels, and rib all feature subtle hand-engraved accents, with more ornate decoration on the receiver flats and trigger guard. The furniture is made of hardwood with checkering on the pistol grip and Splinter-style forend. The forend is rather glossy and has most likely been refinished, as the checkering is visible but not tactile. The stock has a metal buttplate and shows heavy signs of wear, but is not damaged and the checkering can still be felt. This shotgun is overall in fair condition, but could use some extra work to be in its best working condition. The extractor is missing its retaining pin, causing it to float loosely but held in place when closed. A pin near the pivot point is also somewhat loose, moving back and forth a little, but is captive and will not come out without being forced to. The barrels are in good condition, though the solders may need attention, as the barrels do not ring extremely well. This shotgun would be a great project to work on and improve, or could make for an interesting addition to any vintage field gun collection. This shotgun does not include a box or case.<script async type="text/javascript" src="//tracking.skyword.com/tracker.js?contentId=281474980421274"></script>
