This Bubinga Slab Table is SOLD.
It was commissioned in 2010 to be used as a conference table and it seats 7 per side comfortably, for a total of 16 people. Another could be commissioned to be built that would be SIMILAR. Any other slab, even from the same log, will have it's own grain variations and characteristics. A similar table STARTS at $35,000.
With a table this massive, I will always have the client involved in the slab selection process. In its' raw state, this slab was 18 feet long, over 5 feet wide, and nearly 4 inches thick. It weighed around 1,300 lbs. before shortening, milling, and sanding flat. It cost around $15,000. to purchase, rough mill, and get it to the shop where the "real work" could begin.
The ends were cut in a slight arc but the edges were left "live". It took approximately 80 hours just to work the live edges down to 1,500 grit. Gorgeous to look at; even better to touch. (UPDATE**** This table was finished with a hand-rubbed Sam Maloof Oil finish. Since then, I think that I would now recommend a new finish that I've been using the last few years. It's been specifically developed for tables. Still not a heavy, thick type of bar top finish, it offers significantly more protection than just oil.)
This project was a dual-artisan commission. I only did the top. (Both sides of the top were finished to the same 1,500 grit standard) The base, not seen in the photos, was built of steel.
Any other table built to this level would require a personal meeting with the client, either at my studio or I would travel to their home or office. Although the top on a table like this is fairly straightforward with only 3 or 4 options, the base structure supporting it could be built in many styles; all wood, all metal (steel, bronze etc...) or a combination of wood and metal. I have some great ideas for a base that would incorporate wood and hand forged metal; either steel or some other metal.
I have a blacksmith friend with whom I have worked on several other projects that I would get to do the metal components. Plan on around $ 50,000. - $ 90,000. for a conference or dining table built to those standards. We would plan on handling the delivery and installation unless prohibited by Union rules in a high-rise.
Also, if you're spending $50 - $90 K on a table, you might want me to build chairs for it as well. They would run around $16,000. - 21,500. per chair in the same style as the bar stools and Low Back chairs seen elsewhere in this Etsy Store. Here are links to the Koa armchairs that I have built:

Clearly this won't ship via UPS, nor can it be built in 10 weeks...the maximum time frame Etsy allows me to advertise. This is a huge undertaking, and will take some serious dialog to figure out the details before the piece should even be commissioned.
