Geranium Robertianum - Roberts Geranium commonly known as Herb Robert, produces dainty small, five-petaled flowers that are usually a dark rose-red color with paler veins and are round tipped however, sometimes the flowers are a pale pink, that rise atop reddish stems that have dark green leaves that are palmate divided. If the leaves are picked regularly, it will produce a bounty of leaves as long as the growing conditions are just right. The leaves actually end up turning red at the end of the flowering season, which is a unique characteristic of the plant. It has a blooming season ranging from Spring to Fall, does best in shady areas in the garden, and will grow between 12 – 16 inches tall. It will attract Bees to your garden while being resistant to Deer and Rabbits. The flowers and leaves can be dried and stored so they can be used throughout the winter as a tea or can be tossed in salads for some nutrients. An interesting fact is if you rub fresh leaves on your skin, it is said to repel mosquitos, so give it a try! This plant is native to Europe, Asia, and Northern Africa. A little history behind this plant: Herb Robert was named after a French monk who had cured many people who suffered from different diseases using this plant. The plant was used to help with many conditions, and for healing wounds. According to an article in The Healing Journal, herbalists, botanists, and scientists have discovered that this plant grows abundant in areas that tend to have high radiation levels. It is believed that this plant ends up absorbing the radiation from the soil, and then breaks it down and disperses it.

I urge anyone buying seed to do their homework on germination, I have not raised and cannot raise many of these plants as I am sub-tropics here in St Augustine,Florida. All seed are NOT alike! There are so many different factors in germination and not doing a search is throwing your money away. I want everyone to be successful when growing your flowers from seed it is the most rewarding experience in Gardening and you can do it, if you give the seed what it needs to grow. I always check 3 sites of info to choose how I will go about it. It is not hard to do, if you do it right!
